Scholarships & Awards

The following scholarships and awards are given annually to majors in the Department of Biology.

John Neasmith Dickinson Memorial Research Award
Established in 1977 in memory of John Neasmith Dickinson by his family and friends, this award recognizes a biology major and a psychology major and provides both students with financial support to help them complete research projects during their senior year. An application for Arts & Sciences summer research support is required.

The Robert F. Smart Award in Biology
Established in 1988 by Dr. Robert F. Smart, this award provides summer support to the junior or senior biology major who submits the most outstanding proposal for summer research. An application for Arts & Sciences summer research support is required.

The Willie M. Reams Award in Biology
Established in 1969 by Dr. Willie M. Reams, Jr. of Richmond in honor of his father, this award recognizes a senior who has made outstanding achievements in biology and shows promise for advanced study.

The Clarence Denoon Award
Awarded to a science student headed to a prestigious graduate school.

Cole Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a first-, second- or third-year science major on the basis of their academic performance and financial need.
